Job seekers and those interested in new careers now have another new electronic resource available to them and it is completely free of charge. The Opelousas-Eunice Public Library has added access to a new web site called Louisiana Jobs and Careers Center (LAJaCC), available at http://lajacc.state.lib.la.us.
The new site, created and made available by the State Library of Louisiana, brings together more than 100 electronic resources that are divided into major categories, including Job Search Resources, Between-Job Resources, Electronic Resources and Small Business Resources. LAJaCC offers job search information designed to help find available job opportunities, explains how to apply for different types of jobs, how to write your resume, what to expect during a job interview and what will be expected of you in the workplace. The site also includes a link to all of the electronic resources available through the Opelousas-Eunice Public Library and the State Library.
Walter Stubbs, administrative librarian, says, “LAJaCC is just one more of the many invaluable and free tools that public libraries offer the public. Geared towards promoting a strong, well prepared Louisiana workforce, this web site is yet another resource provided to Louisiana residents through the Louisiana Libraries Connecting People to Their Potential project, funded through an $8.8M Federal Stimulus grant recently won by the State Library.”
The grant was awarded by the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s (NTIA) Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP), funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The grant supports projects that enhance and expand public computer centers, and encourage sustainable adoption of broadband service.
A library user may link directly to LAJaCC from the library’s Web site.
If a user clicks on a link that leads to one of the provided commercial resources, such Career Cruising, Learning Express or Tutor.com, it will ask for password, which is available for all registered borrowers of the Opelousas-Eunice Public Library. Otherwise, the user is able to freely navigate the links and sites.
